Laurent Thilmany

Laurent Thilmany lives, studies and works in Brussels.

He completed his last three years of secondary school in the graphic arts sector of IATA in Namur. Then he continued with a bachelor's degree in typography at The School of Graphic Research (École de Recherches Graphiques) in Brussels and decided to specialise in editorial practices within the MULTI master's degree of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. Afterwards, he followed an educational master in order to teach typography and editorial practices.

Both photographer and typographer, he considers his two practices to be dependent. His intention is to show people what they do not see through their own eyes. He considers his photographs as press photographs because they reflect the truth of a certain moment in different places. He has notably worked for RSC Anderlecht and Fieldfisher Belgium.

The series 'Empty Stands' is a long-term but 'consciously started' work that Laurent commenced in 2019 for which he visits empty stadiums in Belgium and around the world. He shows the shapes and the letterings of the empty stands to reveal new aspects. He is preoccupied with great sincerity and the desire to show the truth in the most beautiful way possible. You can follow his work on his instagram page (@laurentthlmny).

In his editorial concepts, Laurent favours the use of his own photographs and typography, with the aim of designing meaningful and unique projects.
